I am greatly indebted to the membership of APPNA Alliance for giving me the distinct honor to serve as the President of the organization. The year went by fast, however, not without leaving some special memories.
The year 2010 started with a great beginning for APPNA ALLIANCE. For the first time we were the major sponsors of a fundraiser done for HDF in St. Louis on March 28th. APPNA Alliance played a major role in attracting the local community to participate in a noble cause focused towards improvement of education in the rural Pakistan. This event generated more than $130,000 .
A historic publication was put in place in the form of the first magazine of the organization. Not only did this magazine cover the history of the Organization and perspectives from most of the Past Presidents of Alliance , this magazine also became the face of the organization’s identity in the summer meeting held in Dallas. For the first time previous meetings held and important events of the recent past were presented in detail. The Magazine provided a great boost and uplift of ALLIANCE among the APPNA Community in general and Alliance community in particular. The publication brought in good amount of revenue as wel
For the first time the Alliance summer meeting was conducted with a Theme in place ” Restoring the Hope…Empowering the Women”. Pakistan ranks 124/155 Countries on the United Nations Gender development Index lagging behind countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, Congo and every single Arab state. The lead taken by Alliance in identifying this discrepancy and putting it before the membership was readily recognized and acknowledged by the Ambassador at Large for the USA, Dr. Azfar Malik and also by the APPNA president, Dr. Zeelaf Munir. Our Keynote speaker, Feryal Gauhar , an International Women’s rights activist highlighted the need for supporting programs for the backbone of the society…the healthy women! The sequence of deliberations resulted in gender sensitization among the audience in reference to the maltreatment of the women when it comes to providing basic health care to carry pregnancies safely, deliver healthy babies and then be able to nurture and raise healthy children, our future!
The annual Banquet was unique in several ways including the distinct display of the Theme of the Year, Children’s musical program and one of a kind , mesmerizing Jewel show that attracted a large number of people to participate in our program.
Creation of the Michigan Chapter under the leadership of Dr. Jabeen Bokhari with 22 members was another success for promoting the cause of Alliance.
I hope the future leadership will continue to build on the momentum of energy and enthusiasm of this year with the help of the membership for further success. I wish them all the very best .
